Vehicle Prowls
Thieves simply go for what they can see, and can quickly notice an unlocked car
door during a slow drive-by or walk-by scan.
In most cases,
stolen property from
a
vehicle prowl is not recovered, because most victims don't provide the police
department with the serial number on their property and/or the crime goes
unreported. Serial numbers, if provided, can be entered into a National Crime
Information Center (NCIC) database which allows police departments nationwide to
identify your stolen property, if recovered.
Vehicle prowls are one of the most preventable crimes.
TIPS:
- Lock your vehicles, roll up all windows, secure tool boxes.
- Park your vehicle in well lighted area. (Install a motion sensitive light).
-
Keep valuables in your car out of sight (GPS/Satellite Radios/Gifts).
- DO NOT leave firearms in your vehicle.
-
Remove the garage door opener from your car. It could give thieves easy access
to your home.
Actions to be taken by you:
- If you observe a vehicle prowl in progress
DO NOT confront the
prowler.
- Call 9-1-1 immediately.
-
Get a good description: Height/Weight/Clothing/Anything that makes them stand
out/direction of travel.
***Basicly, if you want to keep your property
DO NOT leave it in
your vehicle.
